CLASS INFORMATION:

Ballet is an art form created by the movement of the human body. It is theatrical – performed on a stage to an audience utilising costumes, scenic design and lighting. It can tell a story or express a thought, concept or emotion.

Ballet dance can be magical and exciting!

Ballet has been around for centuries. It is believed that the level of training needed is equivalent to that of a professional soccer player. The magic of dance is harnessed and over time, the skills believed to be obtained while dancing are:

Motor skills
Coordination of body movement and awareness
Posture correction and alignment
Confidence and presentation skills
Memory training
fitness endurance
Core fitness and footwork
Classical music appreciation
Story telling using movement

In this class, kids will go on an out-of-this-world dance adventure with renowned choreographer, Penny Thloloe. Are you ready to be inspired through dance and music?

CURRICULUM:

1. Spatial Awareness, Posture Alignment and More!

In this exciting class, you will be introduced to spatial awareness, posture alignment and correction.

As a dancer, you will familiarise yourself with motor skills and coordinate movements in time with the music.

You will also learn to listen to the beat of music and move in time which will help you develop listening skills and memory recall skills.

2. Get Your Certificate!

We all love being rewarded for our hard work! At the end of this class, you are going to complete a short ballet quiz challenge.

Once you have passed the challenge, you will receive a cool Bravespace Academy certificate!

👨‍💻 Penny Thloloe

INTERNATIONAL CHOREOGRAPHER | REALITY DANCE SHOW JUDGE | AS FEATURED IN OPRAH & ELLE MAGAZINE | PASSIONATE ABOUT DANCE

Penelope (Penny) Thloloe is a South African choreographer and professional Ballet, Modern and Spanish dancer.

In 2005, she started the Kasi Ballet Theatre – a professional dance company that also offers dance classes.

In 2011, she was a judge on a popular South African dance reality show on E.TV called Step Up or Step Out.

She was featured in the Oprah magazine for introducing ballet to the South African Township of Alexandra.

Penny is currently the director of Penny’s Dance Academy where Ballet, Contemporary and Hip-hop lessons are offered. She was also featured in Elle Magazine and was sponsored as a Mandela Dancer, funded by Lady Sainsbury which gave her the opportunity to study in London.

1. What do I need to attend your classes?

All our live classes are conducted online in small groups using cutting-edge virtual learning tools. Your child will need access to a computer with a built-in microphone and webcam, as well as a strong internet connection.

Some classes require additional resources like pens and paper, however, our classes are designed with everyday materials in mind, especially stuff commonly found around the house.

Should your child be required to make use of a third-party tool like an app or website, steps on how to install / access the platform will be explained during the class.

2. Can I change the dates / times of classes?

All our classes are conducted live, therefore dates / times cannot be changed. We believe that by providing live classes, our students are able to actively take part in the lessons, ask questions and provide feedback. Once students register, they commit to completing the class on the specified days and times.

Our classes are presented throughout the year – we encourage parents and students to keep an eye on our website for future dates if they are not able to complete a class on the stipulated dates / times.

3. How can I follow up on my child's progress?

After each class, students complete a short quiz challenge or do a practical assignment. When they pass these challenges, students will receive a cool Bravespace Academy certificate as evidence. Parents are also welcome to contact our academy via email: hello@bravespaceacademy.com

4. How does payment and registration work?

Simply complete the registration form on each class page or click / tap on any of the ‘REGISTER NOW’ buttons. After completing the class registration form, you will be redirected to our Payment Confirmation page.

5. What about the online safety of my child?

We create online learning experiences that are safe and empowering for kids. Safety and privacy are paramount as learning and creativity can’t happen unless everyone feels safe.

Our online classes can only be joined by students who have registered for the course. We do not allow anyone over 18 to join our online classes.

Our Bravespace Captains answer students’ questions, and provide encouraging feedback.

Our team consists of qualified and passionate educators with diverse backgrounds and experience in education. These incredible Bravespace Captains believe in creating positive change in the lives of students by equipping them with super future-ready skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, innovation and more!

None of our lessons are pre-recorded. All our classes are conducted LIVE in small groups. This makes the learning experience more engaging and enables students to ask questions. Parents are also updated on their child’s progress.

Instead of being a couch potato, we encourage out-of-this-world screen time! All of our lessons are super fun, hands-on and presented by highly-qualified teachers with international experience.

Our goal is to provide students a safe and innovative learning space. All our ‘Captains’ (teachers) have been thoroughly screened. Our classes also offer an ad-free experience and a space where we encourage braveness.

We not only equip students with theoretical knowledge, but also empower them with future-ready skills through a variety of exciting hands-on projects. Students also receive resources after each course, including interactive notes and other great resources.
